Rock wall repairs for Mid West Ports Authority

Port-wide rock wall repairs

The scope of the works involves repairing and re‐armouring of the existing rock walls in several locations around the port in accordance with MWPA402 Rock Structure Guidelines to achieve a 50‐year design life as required by foreshore protection structures.

The main project requirement is to reclaim, sort, and reinstate rock armour to nominated sections of the existing rock walls to restore their full structural integrity. In some cases, sections of the rock wall have an inconsistent wall grade and profile with varying materials, size, mass. This inconsistent profile and materials have come about due to storm damage. The repaired sections of the rock walls are re‐built in accordance with best practice standards and guidelines. RDH is responsible for protection of the works areas, and this involves fencing, signage or a combination of both.

Works envolved:

  • Stripping the damaged armor rock and sorting re-usable material.

  • Filling and shaping of the rock wall core material.

  • Placing Geotextile fabric and covering with high-grade rocks.

Project value: $4.4m

Completion date: end January 2024.
